It’s only March, but it’s been awfully warm where I live and it seems more like late April or May. For me that means a couple things… Runoff, high-water boating, somewhat iffy fishing conditions and thinking about the first big hatch of the year. Around here that means the big bugs. Salmonflies… We only get the mammoth stoneflies on two rivers in any large numbers in this state—the Colorado and Gunnison—but if the stars align with weather, water and a little time to devote it’s a magical experience. This little short from Beattie Outdoor Productions and SIMMS fishing does a perfect job of showing you what this hatch is all about.
