A few years back I had the opportunity to chase white sturgeon in the Columbia River on the Oregon-Washington border. In two days, we hooked up a bunch of fish, none of which weighed less than 300 pounds. It remains the most intense freshwater fishing experience I've ever had. Just the fact that you're in sweeter using tuna tackle is wild, and while sturgeon might look like slow, dopey fish, they're anything but once you set that hook. While the sturgeon in this video from the guys at Uncut Angling aren't that huge, they are still pretty epic size-wise considering they're coming through the ice. I think down the road, I need to try this. Knowing how a sturgeon bends a broomstick, having one tied to an ice rod must be spectacular.
