Tennessee honey baked beans

Baked beans are a must-have side for barbecue. This recipe comes from the Swiggin’ Pig barbecue team, Reserve Grand Champion at the 2012 Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue competition. Pro tip: Slide a pan of these underneath the ribs or pork shoulder in the smoker to catch all that flavorful fat as it drips from the meat.

Tennessee Honey Baked Beans

2 large cans baked beans
1 cup chunky salsa
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey
1 Tbsp. yellow mustard
1 Tbs. Worcestershire
6 strips thick sliced bacon
Salt and pepper to taste

Mix ingredients and top with bacon. Bake, grill over indirect heat, or smoke at 350 degrees for about 1 1/2 hours or until bacon is done and beans have thickened.
