The average grasshopper is basically a pint-sized grain bar: It sports 20.6 grams of protein and 5 milligrams of iron. That’s twice the iron and just 3 grams of protein less than a similar spoonful of lean ground beef. Granted, broiling a hopper over the open fire isn’t going to replace a flame-seared steak, but in a survival situation, a pile of bugs can keep you alive.
