All whitetail hunters dream of a rut-crazed November, but, unfortunately, the rut can be hot in one place and cold in another. I spent last week in south-central Kansas, where mature-buck activity was extremely slow. The region has been plagued with high winds and warm temperatures throughout much of the first half of November—but cooler conditions are in the forecast. On the other hand, in Washington and eastern Oregon, the rut is in full swing. Now is the time to be in a treestand in these prime Western destinations.
