I have a couple prizes to give away today–the last two FoodSaver GameSaver vacuum-sealersFirst, you’ll recall a couple of weeks ago when I asked for your suggestions on the angler’s perfect packed lunch. More than 50 of you shared your favorite streamside menu, and even though I didn’t get to go fishing while I was home in Missouri last week (too much rain), I did select a winner…

Congratulations are in order for reader RWNewhouse. Here’s his packed lunch:

• Two wedges of a traditional, robust Muffuletta sandwich: Genoa salami, deli ham, sliced mortadella, and provolone, and all the pickled fixings (olives, peppers, cauliflower) to go with it
• Drained canned corn kernels in a 4 oz. Nalgene bottle
• A bag of Boulder Canyon Malt Vinegar & Sea Salt chips
• A jar of mostly-drained pineapple chunks and apple wedges (pineapple contains bromelain, which will aid in digesting the oily goodness in the sandwich and chips, plus the juice will keep the apple wedges from turning brown)
• For dessert, three oatmeal-raisin cookies
• A can (or two) of your favorite light beer that doesn’t need to be ice cold to be enjoyed

I promise you, RWNewhouse and I have never met, but he still managed to select many of my favorites: muffuletta, salt-and-vinegar chips, fresh pineapple, oatmeal-rain cookies, and, of course, beer. Next time I go trout fishing, this is the lunch I’m packing.

Now, onto our second winner.

Last week I posted a photo of all of the venison from the whitetail deer I shot last fall, and asked you to guess the date I shot it, the state where I was hunting, and (as the tiebreaker) the number of points on the buck’s rack. Before I announce the winner, I’ll share the answers:

Date: November 17, 2010
State: North Carolina
Antler Points: Five

Three of you guessed the correct date, and only two of you got the state right. No one got both right, which meant the tiebreaker came into play as the deciding factor making reader, Jay, the winner. Jay actually came close to guessing all three correctly; he was off on the date by just one day, guessing November 18.

Congrats again RWNewhouse and Jay for their wins. (Please email your address and phone numbers to fswildchef@gmail.com.) And thank you again to the folks at FoodSaver for supplying the great prizes.

We’ll be back next week with another great giveaway. Stay tuned.
