The Deadliest Snakes in the World: Cobras, Vipers, and the Taipan

In any snake discussion, the question of which is the most deadly is a hotly debated topic. The Indian cobra, Russell's viper, and saw-scaled viper are responsible for most of the 30,000 to 110,000 worldwide snakebite fatalities each year, but that's largely due to their abundance in heavily populated areas where antivenin is scarce. The species with the most toxic venom is Australia's inland taipan, which can inject enough venom to kill more than 100 humans. --KEITH MCCAFFERTY
