From the Pioneer Press:

_Department of Natural Resources officials will decide this week whether [an] unprecedented [spring] hunt will be used to help “depopulate” deer herds where a cattle disease has broken out.

“Our mission is to get bovine TB out of the deer herd up here,” said Paul Telander, northwest regional wildlife manager. . . .

Dave Schad, the agency’s Fish and Wildlife director, said there were logistical hurdles to a spring hunting season, but he and others were considering it.

“We know that sharpshooters and aerial shooting works, but we’re not sure what kind of effort we’ll have with a public hunt,” Schad said, given that roads would be muddy and hunters might not be interested in shooting does carrying fawns._
