Alabama’s Boyd Duckett took the first-day lead in the Bassmaster Classic at Lay Lake on Friday, catching a total of 19 pounds, 14 ounces.
Duckett, of Demopolis, also won $1,000 for catching the largest bass of the day, a fish that weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces. Randy Howell, also of Alabama, was second at 17 pounds, 15 ounces, and Skeet Reese of California was third at 17 pounds, 8 ounces.
