_When Steve Oudomsouk[, 58,] landed a potential state-record blue catfish at San Vicente last Thursday he followed his cultural instincts learned in Southeast Asia. . . .
“My father really didn’t know it was any kind of record fish because there are so many big fish in San Vicente,” said his son, Viraphon, who has been helping his father with interviews and meetings since he caught that potential California state-record 113.4-pound blue cat. “That’s what he knows; he catches fish to eat.”
Once at Lower Otay Lake in east Chula Vista, Oudomsouk landed a huge largemouth bass. It weighed 20 pounds on his hand-held scale. He never weighed it at the dock; never told anyone.
“We ate that, too,” Oudomsouk said, not realizing it may have been one of the top 12 largemouths ever caught in the United States._
