Last March, Kentucky anglers Brian Thomas and Dwayne Nesmith took first place in Lake Barkley’s Superbass championship tournament by retrieving live fish they’d previously caught and planted in a submerged basket. They went home with a bass boat worth $30K. Now Thomas is paying.

From an Associated Press article on Wave3.com:
_Lyon Circuit Judge C.A. Woodall sentenced Thomas to one year on each of two charges: theft by deception over 300 dollars and theft by deception under 300 dollars. The jail sentence is to be probated for five years provided he pay 23-thousand dollars in restitution through the commonwealth attorneys office.

Thomas will also be banned from any fishing tournaments and prohibited from holding a fishing license during the probationary period.
