Do fishermen lie? Well, yes, of course they do–but maybe not quite as much as we’ve always assumed, given the results of a new study suggesting there’s truth in angler’s tales of monster fish and that angling itself may explain the presence of these giants.
From Live Science:
_If a lake or pond is overfished, and a lot of the big ones are caught, the situation is ripe for oversized freaks to develop, according to a new computer model.
The research suggests that harvesting only large fish knocks out the food competition for the remaining adults, allowing the adults to gorge on smaller fish and inflate to gigantic proportions._
So, will this make your buddy’s next tale about the leviathan that got away more believable?
