Reducing the number of nuisance geese is a tough job. But it looks like we hunters will just have to suck it up considering a final rule from the US Fish and Wildlife Service that will allow state wildlife agencies, landowners, and airports more flexibility in controlling resident Canada goose populations. The decision opens the door to significantly expanded hunting opportunities and methods, including longer shooting hours, the legal use of electronic callers and unplugged shotguns, and special “management take” hunts to take place outside of the existing sport hunting seasons (September 1 to March 10). All told, your bag of resident geese could be considerably bigger this year.
