Boundary Waters Yield Potential State-Record Moose

Only an hour into opening morning in Minnesota’s Boundary Waters, Jack Weix and Patrick Flynn of St. Paul spotted a huge bull moose from their canoe. Weix raised his rifle, shot, and dropped the animal. It took the men two days to get the meat and antlers out, but back in civilization, the taxidermist green-scored the trophy at 236 ½ inches. The state record is 227 1/8.
