You’ve probably noticed that Field & Stream has not been afraid to criticize White House policies that threaten fish and wildlife. But we’re happy to give credit where it’s due: Just prior to a U.N. debate on bottom trawling (which is “like clear-cutting the forest to catch a squirrel,” a Pew Charitable Trust spokesman told MSNBC), President Bush has called for a halt to all types of destructive fishing on the high seas, saying the United States will work to eliminate practices such as bottom trawling that devastate fish populations and the ocean floor.
