A controversial plan by state Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Alpine) to allow continued big-game hunting in California’s Channel Islands National Park appears doomed, according to this Los Angeles Times story. Instead, the nonnative deer and elk currently hunted by private parties on Santa Rosa Island will likely be eradicated, as mandated by a 1997 court settlement between the federal government and the island’s former owners.
