Forty-four-year-old Australian animal-advocate icon Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray while filming a television program on the Great Barrier Reef Monday. Almost immediately after pulling the creature’s poisonous barb from his own chest, the well-known Crocodile Hunter lost consciousness and died. Footage of the incident is “shocking,” according to Irwin’s agent, and so far has not been released. Meanwhile, the TV star’s death has prompted an outpouring of tributes to the man and condolences to his family. click here for story click here for public reaction
