While outdoors enjoying a nice boat ride, let’s say, or a spin through the countryside on an ATV, it’s easy to forget how important it is to watch out for jumping fish and wildlife. But the second you let your guard down you could be smashed in the face by a 3-foot-long Gulf sturgeon, like Florida woman Dawn Poirier recently was while cruising the Suwannee River. Or you may bushwhacked by a leaping deer, like Pennsylvania’s John Kowal was on Sunday while on a benefit ATV ride. As a witness to the sturgeon incident told reporters, “people. . . need to be aware . . . that these fish [and most wildlife] can and will jump.”
