From the Merced Sun-Star:
_Despite being defeated soundly in Merced and Stanislaus counties, Proposition 2, the fair treatment of farm animals, passed resoundingly in the state. . . .
Proposition 2 requires that egg-laying chickens in cages be able to stand up, turn around, lie down and extend their wings. . . .
“I’m so very disappointed,” said Diana Westmoreland-Pedrozo, the executive director of the Merced County Farm Bureau, of the statewide result. . . .
“
The egg producers are going to be moving out of California,” she said. . . .
The Humane Society of the United States, the prominent supporter of Proposition 2, couldn’t be reached for comment at deadline. . . .
“I don’t eat my pets. I never have and I never will. These aren’t pets,” Westmoreland-Pedrozo said. . . .
“It’s too bad that people who have never raised an animal can dictate to those that do how to raise those animals,” she said._
