Don’t Take My Guns: US Senate votes to ban confiscations during emergencies

Controversial gun seizures following Hurricane Katrina prompted Louisiana, along with 9 other states, to pass laws prohibiting the confiscation of legally-owned firearms during an emergency. Now the federal government is getting on board. An amendment to ban such seizures introduced by Louisiana Sen. David Vitter and attached to a domestic security spending bill passed by a vote of 84-16 on Thursday. The House version does not include the gun provision, but that body is typically sympathetic to gun owners, according to this Reuters article. In other words, no matter what the emergency, no matter where you live in the US, it appears likely that you'll get to keep your guns.
