A giant hammerhead shark caught Wednesday by Florida fisherman Fritz Van Der Grift broke the local scales at 1,038 pounds but fell shy of the world-record weight of 1,280 pounds, according to this CBS4 report.
According to the charter captain, though, there’s an even bigger one lurking in the same waters. “There’s a fish out there that’s . . . 1,700-1,800 pounds,” he told reporters.
