Wildlife is a public resource, right? Well, maybe not for long in the Lone Star State. A lawsuit filed against Texas Parks and Wildlife seeks to have scientific breeder deer held in pens legally declared private property. And as Corpus Christi Caller-Times columnist David Sikes points out, it's a short leap from penned breeders to the many whitetails roaming the state's high-fence ranches, where the issue of deer privatization seems already decided in practice, if not legally. The Wildlife Society and the Izaac Walton League of America have joined the lawsuit on the side of TPW, but should private interests prevail, we could be looking at a very slippery slope.
