Yesterday, we ran a link reporting that officials at Tennessee’s Cherokee National Forest Chilhowee Recreation Area had captured a black bear they believed was likely the same animal that killed 6-year-old Elora Petrasek and injured her mother and 2-year-old brother in the April 13th attack at a park swimming hole. Now they’re not so sure, as preliminary tests of the captured bear, which was euthanized and sent to the University of Tennessee Veterinary School for forensic examinations, have failed to tie the animal to the attack. Meanwhile, authorities have trapped a second bear, which they will hold, alive, until further testing is done on the first.
