When a 5-year-old yellow lab named Lindsay wandered out of a Kingston, Massachusetts, backyard Monday morning, a 2-year-old boy named Liam followed–barefooted in single-digit temperatures–and was gone before anyone could notice. Parents and police searched the area but found nothing after 45 minutes until Lindsay barked and led William E. Thompkins Jr. directly to his son, who was lying in the fetal position in a wooded area a half-mile from home. Authorities called it a “tragedy averted.”
