Lead Litigation: Group plans suit to protect California condors for toxic ammo

If a coalition of conservation and health organizations has its way, California hunters will be loading nontoxic ammo into more than just their waterfowl guns. The group, which has served notice that it will sue the California Fish and Game Commission, claims that the use of lead ammunition "is the single greatest obstacle to the recovery of wild California condors," which feed on carcasses left by hunters. Arguing further that toxic ammo is unsafe for other wildlife, as well hunters and their families, the group says it's time to ban all lead shot and bullets.
