
In 1931, there were only 17 pairs of nesting sandhill cranes in Michigan. Today, there some 8,000. Celebrated as the fanciest dancers in the animal kingdom, these huge birds are now becoming a nuisance to area farmers, some of whom are calling for a hunt to control their numbers.
