“While the hungry sea lions below Bonneville Dam await the salmon course, they’re going wild for the sturgeon appetizer,” begins this report from The Oregonian. According to state fisheries officials, the opportunistic predators have killed and eaten at least 347 white sturgeon just below the dam on the Columbia River. To protect the spawning fish, officials say they will haze sea lions from dawn to dusk, seven days a week until mid-May, using explosives and rubber bullets.
