From 1997 to 2003, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service introduced or expanded hunting opportunities at 37 national wildlife refuges. That was the good news. The bad news for sportsmen (and a victory for the Humane Society) is that U.S. District Judge Ricardo M. Urbina now says the agency violated federal law by never considering the consequences of increased hunting. Urbina has not yet banned hunting on the refuges in question, but a scaling back of opportunities seems likely. click here for story
