From the Canyon City Daily Record: His beloved golden retrievers stayed with Col. Gary Lorenz until the very end, flanking his casket Monday afternoon before it was lowered into the earth . . . . Lorenz, 63, and his dogs were reported missing from his Cotopaxi home on Sept. 24. A massive manhunt ensued, with hundreds of people representing dozens of agencies searching for him for weeks.
His body, still guarded by his golden retrievers, was found by a hunter four weeks later on Oct. 20. . . .
“(If) you really want to know what kind of a person a man is, ask his dog,” (said Lorenz’ daughter) Deanna.
