Adlee Bruner and five friends just wanted to enter some grouper in the well-known Destin Fishing Rodeo, according to this Northwest Florida Daily News article. Instead, he shattered the tournament’s mako record by 338 pounds.
“It was tense,” Bruner told the paper. “I’ve fished for 40 years. I’ve never see one that big. . . . It was like ‘Jaws.’ ”
