From a Concord Monitor editorial:
_The state Senate will vote today on whether to ban the longstanding but suspect practice of using apples, corn or the special “lollipops” sold at sporting goods stores to attract deer for the purpose of shooting them. It should do so.
Hunting deer over bait may or may not actually improve a hunter’s chances for success, though most people would say it does. It has been proven, however, that deer that frequent bait stations become more and more nocturnal. And that reduces the odds that they will be seen by hunters during legal hunting hours._
The article continues to argue that baiting potentially furthers the spread of CWD and hurts hunting’s public image.
