Late last month, John Horstman of Callaway County, MO, caught a giant 19-inch black crappie while fishing with his son on a private lake near their home. The fish registered 5.02 pounds on a scale certified by the state Department of Conservation and is now the official Missouri record for the species. And if that weight holds up to IGFA certification standards, Horstman’s catch will become the new all-tackle world-record. The giant crappie, by the way, has been donated to Bass Pro Shops and will eventually circle the aquarium at their Springfield store. Here’s the full story with a picture:
