Just past midnight, 38-year-old Christine Whitteker heard her dog barking uncontrollably outside her mountain home in Colorado’s Conifer Pine Estates Monday. She’d just let her pet indoors and was about to close the sliding door when a yearling black bear rushed her at a full run, slashing Whitteker’s abdomen and thigh.
