Happy Easter!

The photo says it all. A friend sent this photo via e-mail to me.
Found this photo of a successful deer hunting trip in my dads old albums. This is the year after he and three other fellows purchased their property and cabin in Michigans U.P. Looks like they might have need a bigger vechicle-Ha Ha.-Walt Smith

Bald Eagle Roadkill

I have been taking weekend trips to Ely Minnesota for years. Witnessing the eagle population rebound has been very exciting, almost as much as having to swerve my car off the road to miss them at meal time!

Lunker Lackey

Caught on Lake Cumberland Kentucky while striper fishing. I don’t have much of a fighting story. I thought he was a log at first. Once we got him to the boat I realized he was the largest SM bass I’ve ever saw. He was released.

Dominant Albino Buck

I took this photo of the dominant albino whitetail buck in the Father Hennipen State Park here in central Minnesota. He is just one of four other albinos that reside in the park. The number of albino deer that live in my area is truly incredible! I personally know of seven!

It’s been confirmed…..the devil does fish!

Tired and just in from a long flight from the northeast, we didn’t give much thought to warming our bones or eating and got down to fishing. The first night in the mangrove channels yeilded this 35+ inch snook. The rest of the trip was great (trout, grouper, and reds) but this is a picture that I email weekly to the group to remind them that we better start planning for next year.

Raging river fishing

Lake Run Rainbow Trout

This is a lake run rainbow trout caught out of the South Platte River between Spinney Mountain and Eleven Mile Reservoirs. A pod of big rainbows appeared creating wakes in the river. I made two casts- she ate on the second one. I was the victor after she bull-dogged me for several minutes of battle. When it was all done the fish swam away tired but healthy.

Clay’s Illinois Buck

The morning before this buck was taken I had to watch what I thought was my shooter buck walk off after having some technical difficulties with my bow. I thought that I had missed the opportuninty of a lifetime. That afternoon however, this 133 inch buck was taken without any trouble.

Smallmouth Done Right

My father an I were camping in Western New York, and this Smallmouth made a great dinner. We cooked it on a Wild Plum plank over an open fire. I got the idea from an article in Field & Stream.

The skull scored 20 9/16″, making the Boone & Crockett Awards Club. This big boy was brought down with my handloaded Barnes TSX 150 grain hollow-point bullets fired from a Ruger .30-06 rifle.

Rattler in Rattlesnake Cove

Fishing the bank of Bartlett Lake in Rattlesnake Cove when this Mohave Rattlesnake snapped with no warning hitting my jeans then letting go. After a few choice words and a change of some garments I stepped back and snapped a few photos.

Sage’s first year hunting was very exciting and successful. This was the first year I have trained and hunted with a female yellow lab. I have had three other dogs, but they were males. The experience has been fun and positive and we are looking forward to many years of hunting together.

Beautiful Brown Trout

While it was my first time fishing the Cheesman Canyon area of the S. Platte River, my skills put me on fish like I was a seasoned veteran! I sight fished to this beauty of a Brown for 20 minutes, switching flies and rigs until I finally caught his attention with an RS2!! It was a great day in the canyon!
