James Phipps of Clovis, N.M., shot this 150-plus-inch whitetail on Thanksgiving morning in eastern New Mexico. Phipps spotted the 12-point buck before 7 A.M., stalked it, and found it in tall grass with a doe. Ten-year-old Tanner Graham hunts with his family as often as he can. On December 29 of last year, he went out near Waterloo, Ala., and shot this 8-point, 150-inch whitetail, his first buck. Tanner tells the story:
"I wanted to hunt with granddaddy, and we left my dad in another area. A big doe came out in the field after watching a yearling for 30 minutes. I put the crosshairs on her and cocked the hammer, then noticed movement behind her. There he was. I aimed on the buck and squeezed."
