Hola Fly Talk Amigos. I am most grateful to be safely home in the United States after a fascinating, extreme adventure in the Bolivian jungle. Rest assured, there will be magazine and web content forthcoming on this angle. But here's a little sneak peek, if only because I cannot help myself...
One thing I learned right away is that no river fish I have ever hooked before strikes and fights with anything approaching the bad-to-the-bone intensity of freshwater dorado (this one weighed about 16 pounds, and was caught by my buddy Rodrigo Salles). These fish are insane. Wary. Smart. Yet pure predators.
Does anyone want to suggest another contender for the title of "toughest fish in the rivers?" Foreign or domestic... I'm all ears. But I'm inclined to believe this species takes the gold.
