IS IT MAY ALREADY? No wonder I’m studying tarpon flies! I caught my largest tarpon ever during this month. Right now along the Florida Keys, tides are getting stronger, and days longer, as skiffs on trailers head for Islamorada–a small island village, whose central location lets you fish to the northern (Biscayne Bay) and western (Key West) extremes of the spring tarpon migration. My favorite area is Everglades National Park, a 30-minute skiff ride north from the dock at Islamorada. There’s a fly called the Bushwood that I’ve got confidence in for this year. My hunch had better be right because I’ve already tied 60 of them! If you go, call Sandy Moret at Florida Keys Outfitters, 305-664-5423.
