I used to use one a lot and had much better luck when I tied a bucktail on the rear treble hook. I even took the rear spinner off on a couple occasions. The bucktail gives it a whole different action.
I have one in original frog pattern and i haven't caught anything much on it except for some Rockbass. I have pretty much given up and haven't used it lately.
I've got several, and they're my favorite topwater lure. My killer is a silver shad colored one. Make a good cast, pull it just a bit, stop, twitch, stop, twitch, stop, pull a foot, stop.... you get the picture. The last hour of daylight is THE BEST for this, or any topwater lure in my book, as is the first hour, but I'm not much of a morning person when it comes to fishing. If you don't want your torpedo's anymore, I'll take em.
yeah the teeny torpedo works awesome, You may have to big of a size for the fish, I've used the model that you stated and caught about five fish with it in my life time, every one of the fish I caught though was about 20 inches.
When I'm fishin with any of my torpedo's I'll make a good cast and after the bait hits the water get the slack out of the line. Then let most or all of the wake receed. Then a light twitch, stop, then a heavier twitch, making sure to get all of the slack out of the line each time. Once a fish hits the torpedo, dont set the hook right away. Sometimes the fish will miss it or just hit it and come back for its kill. You'll know when the fish is on and then set the hook hard, and the fight will be on.
I use a tiny heddon torpedo just at ligth change in morning and an overcast weater working it similar as a popper near de estructures,it works, twitch your rod twice, then wait 20 or more seconds reel in to kept line in tension twitch one more time. Be patient at a time a big boil will change your sleepy face on a happy one. Good fishing!
i use one in the frog pattern. its become my goto lure. ive caught lg mouth, sm mouth, rock bass, crappie, bluegill and perch with this. many many times bass hit it when or just before it hits the water. i let it sit for about 3 seconds then turn the reel one time at medium speed and pause for half a second, then repeat. it has been THE lure for me here in northern indiana
I've used them with great results. I pop em, pull them as a buzz bait, rip em with 3 foot jerks, work em slow. It is a lure that users have to experiment with to see what retrieve works best for them. For a fun lure try super spooks jrs, supper spooks, top dogs, top dog jrs, talk about explosive strikes.

I take them too gladly if you don't like it anymore....
I use a tiny and a teeny torpedo from time to time. Cast it out, let it lay for a bit, then twitch it back, much like a popper. That works for me.
