Q:
Hey guys im going Salmon fishing in Canada next week around Vancouver island. I've never been salmon fishing before so do you have any tips for fishin for the buggers from the shore? Im going to be around Campbell River for a week too. Is there any pike or other fish besides trout and salmon on Vancouver Island? What lures for salmon? I was thinking of spoons and spinners.

Use some spoons for the salmon. Hopefully when you go it will be the salmon run, so all you have to do is cast out there and you'll catch em. I did that in alaska.
My favorite color spoons/lures for salmon are blue and silver..thats seems to be the universal "hot" color wherever I go
You got it, spoons and spinners. Blue Fox makes some good ones for salmon (both the spoons and spinners). We used the heck out of them in AK casting from the shore.
A couple of my best shore casting spoons have been the Krockadile with glow in the dark paint. They cast long and catch lots at dusk and dawn. The same spoon in blue and silver it good too.You charge the glow in the dark paint with a camera flash attachment... just give it a flash and it is good for about 25 casts. You will probably see so many salmon that you won't have to fiddle with that though. If the going gets tough and they are there but just not hitting, tie a small streamer fly about 12-18 inches ahead of you lure... it excites salmon into hitting. I've also nailed my share on a KO Wobler or a Mepps Aglia with a fly ahead of it.
Spoons as the name suggests came from kitchen spoons. Cut the bowl from the handle. Drill a hole at either end. Attach a split ring at one end and a split ring and a hook at the other and away to go!!!!!!!!!!
The Blair spoon has bumps along one side which cause turbulence which is so say attractive............
Spinning blade or Mepps has now become a standard name in Europe for this type of lure. A blade rotates around the body of the lure. This style tends to cause the line to become twisted unless used with a weight or vane and must have swivel/s. As with all good things there are lots of imitations. Simple silver or gold in size 3 works well...........
Good luck on your fishing.......
brightly colored spoons and spinners work also I have tried bobbers and worms in July before but I don't know if they will work for you good luck.
green coho killer behind a 10" green flasher scented with squid oil. this works magic in the puget suond
