when i was watching larry csonka last night i noticed while reeling in fish he would hit a metal tin against his reel, he did it multiple times. so could anyone explain to me what was the reason for this or is it just something he does?

you mean packing his can of snuff?
He was probably making ticking sounds that will run down the string tocall in deep water fish. Much like the lead weight hitting glass balls or some Texas rigged worms or rattles in rattle traps, sound gets attention.
no it was not a can of snuff it was like a soda can or something like that and i think cgull has the answer

i saw that too on versus,good question,like to know if that has a purpus.

Could be he was splashing water on the reel to cool it off.
