Q:
Does anyone have suggestions on how to keep pickled bait from falling apart? I usually keep left over bait from ice fishing or even smelting in the spring and throw it in some plastic wrap with salt, then stick it in the freezer...When I use it in the spring some bags can be like mush and barely hold onto the hook..Help!

Try salting the bait, keeping cool for a few days until it hardens. Then vacuum seal it if you can, seal it as tight as you can and freeze.
Only bring what your going to use, they won't hit rotten bait!
Tie a hitch knot around the bait and tie it off to your hook eye. Should keep the bait on there for a while longer.

I use salt, Sea Salt in large quantities to keep the bait fresh,

This works really well with shad I catch in my cast net, don't be afraid to go heavy on the salt, it makes a big difference in how well the bait holds up.

I agree with Kkeltic vacuum sealing provides the best results.
