I use a Shimano. Everyone I know uses Shimano as well. I have also heard good things about Ugly Sticks, but they are out of my price range. My shimano has performed flawlessly and always holds up to any weather.
I have an ugly stick, a shimano pole, a berkley pole, and a bunch of other poles by various companies that dont get much attention anymore. Have really gotten into pfluger reels to go with my poles.
I find it hard to beat an old cane pole with a bobber on the end. I've even been guilty of not putting any bait on it so I could taake an uninterrupted nap. Nothing worse than a pesky perch interrupting a good dream about a big bruiser whitetail!
I don't know the name of it because I bought it at a rummage sale for 1.00 but it says graphite on the side, with a Shimano FX100 real. I've caught a ton of panfish with it. I love this no name rod!
I like the Pflueger rod and reel combos for spinning and ABU 4500 and 5500 bait casters on BPS Extreme rods. I have never had a Abu Garcia or Pflueger reel fail on me.

I really like my ugly sticks, I can use them when I'm fishing for anything from bass to catfish. And I can get them at Wal-Mart for a fair price.
Ugly Stik lite is the way to go if your into trout or panfishing.

Berkley Series One baitcaster.
I like Fenwicks and even the less expensive BassPro Shops models. They are both strong and sensetive. A great buy either way.
