Question by Kentucky Hunter. Uploaded on August 15, 2009
I don't have the gun any more, but I used Federal Power-Shok with the Sierra Pro-Hunter.....never got out to 400 though, so can't say what they'd do at that range....
Hornady 117 grain SST's order #81454
Remington 100 grain Core-Lokt® work fantastic to!
Sierra bullets SUCK!
Bullets and core seperation!!
I shoot winchester ballistic silver tips. I've never shot out that far. I was watching Verses today and watched a lady shoot a mule deer out at I think 250 yards with the winchester.
Remington Core-Lokt have severed well for over 10 years. Never failed to get a deer that wasn't the shooters fault.
I use 100 grain bullets for all deer hunting (I have taken a few with 117 grainers on a lark and they are great too although a little slower) and they are deadly out to 400 yards. I reload but for factory loads, I would try them and take the most accurate. If you can find one loaded with Barnes TSX bullets you would have a mighty fine deer load. The bullet will not be much of a factor though as they will all cream a deer if you hit them in the vitals. If you intend to shoot at 400 yards, accuracy is the supreme factor. Almost all of my 25-06 deer have been taken with a Hornady 100g flat base spire point bullet. Never had a cripple in 45+ years.
