Q:
Ok I seen a 12 point on this propety i have permission to hunt until thursday. But i've never seen him by my stand. Should i sit somewhere else or keep to my stand. I shot my first deer with my bow the other day, it was a doe at 30 yards from my stand but i've only seen 4 deer so far while sitting there. What do I do?!

Congrats on the first deer. I remember my first deer like it was yesterday. As for the stand situation I would try sitting somewhere else. If that doesnt work try stalking him.

If it were me, I'd move. You could build a small ground blind downwind from where you saw him or a trail he might be using. Not too big of a blind--you don't want to create a disturbance--just cut a little brush to cover your movement & your outline. If you can find natural cover, all the better. Good luck--safe hunting.

If only had till thursday to hunt this piece of property and i only seen 4 deer out of the stand i was already hunting i would choose another stand do some of what i call speed scouting its what i do when i only have a couple of days to hunt somewhere if you seen a 12 point and want to take him go to where you seen him at and see if there is any ovious trails then go from there i would back track the direction he came from and try to figure out where and why he's using the area chances are if you find a well used trail he's probly not the only buck in the area you might not get a shot at him but run into a different buck well good luck i hope you get him.

i agree with turk. find some really fresh activity and throw a stand up there. especially try to focus on trails leading to doe bedding areas, with this rut going on thats where they big guys are going to let their guard down.

Try to find his rub line and set back within range. Try to pattern the Buck without it pattering you and it will!

If you can find a scrape nearby then hunt there because is is probably using it. Or you could try to call him in with the rut starting. But i would move because deer probably know your pattern.

Sit somewhere else because he might have moved to a different place if he was pressured or found a better food plot.

Stick to that stand. Patience is key to hunting.
