Q:
I had a 40 yard shot last week that I normally wouldn't take, but he stood broad side for over five minutes, missed left. My question is, if I'm wearing a hood and face mask, well that change my anchor point and throw off the shot even thow I'm still lining up my peep site, and pins

this should effect your shot
Im guessing it probably did mess up your shot. Definatley if you dont practice shooting your bow with a face mask on it will cause you to shoot diffrent. That happened the same way with me not practicing with a hat on and i shot at an 8 pointer and missed so i started practicing with a hat and now i am used to it.
Yeah it would. I havent used a bow in a few years but what I used to do was get fully dressed out in all my gear to do a final sighting in and a few test shots the week before the season. I found that made a difference with sighting! hats and jackets can get in the way and make lots of noise. Better to find out shootin at a target than at a nice buck!
I definitely shoot left with a thick facemask, but only a couple of inches at 20 yards.
Most of this year I shot and practiced with thin gloves now insulated gloves changed the shot, lowering it by eight inches at twenty five yards. I was astounded the glove was not much thicker. I would say a big buck, and not sure (set up a target and see what happens). Something to be said about piece of mind.
always practice your shooting a few times before a hunt with the gear you will be wearing i have had that problem before and most of the time a slight minut ajustment is nessary to fix the problem
I answered this one on another page, but I'm with Kent. Hunter on this one.
Practice like you hunt, then you konw your "point" and where to aim.
Sorry again for the miss ! Keep trying !
Good Luck and Good Hunting !
I always said in Law Enforcement Train as you fight, when training officers. When you need your Bow is to late to find out that you can't clip on your release, or that your guilie suit strips on your arm are just long enough to get sucked into your cam.
When I tried some new gloves this year while practicing, I had pulled it on over my hand with the release already on, and had cut a hole in the palm so the release would set naturally, the same as when practicing.(I had it all figured out) When I clipped on my release and started to draw some of the strings from ware I had cut the glove got intwined, and about 3/4of the way into my draw I watched my arrow fly over our gazibo and stick in the ground about a foot before going into my pond.
So at the very least practice as you would hunt for at least the last two or three weeks before season opener so there is no surprises.
It might. Your layered hunting clothes on your arms may also throw off your shot. An arm guard can correct the hunting clothes problem by pulling the clothing closer to your skin and providing a smooth edge for the bow string to hit against.
it will change your anchor point and will throw off your shot just a little. maybe like 2-3 inches at the most. i don't wear one because of this. i dont want to mess things up when i have the buck of a lifetime standing in my shooting lane.
You must have bumped your sight to miss left on a broadside shot. If anything you shoulda missed low.
PLus you don't really need a facemask..you can jsut use paint....
