I love .410 shotguns, my first pheasant and grouse hunts were done with a .410. I especially like using a .410 for grouse hunting when I'm in thick spruce cover. The barrel is usually shorter and is easier to use in the thick.
yeah thats definatly a plus side my dad uses a 12 guage and i use my old .410 i can minuver my gun through the thicker cover a lot easier plus it doesnt make a mess when you hit the bird ive seen a lot of people completely destroy their birds just because of the power of their guns
Well, I think a .410 is good for thick cover and squirrel hunting. It doesn't damage the meat too much and it's light. Also, for your first turkey hunt it will work but you need to go bigger caliber once you get older. Overall I think they're a pretty handy gun to own.
someone that hit a flying dove with a .410 is a great shot, I think its a gun for more experienced hunters rather than beginning hunters like it is often used
I use mine mainly for squirrel and rabit hunting. If you can find a .22/.410 or 20ga combination over under that way you get the best of both worlds. Thats what I have.
I love to shoot 410's and 28's for dove, quail, squirrel and rabbits. But ammo is much cheaper for a 20 and it has a larger charge of shot. I agree with herbie my first was a 410.
My first shotgunning experience was with a .410, and I think it's a fine choice to keep squirrels and rabbits on the campfire or to stay in practice on hand-thrown clays. I wouldn't rely on it as my ONLY shotgun, but I'd purchase another for the pure fun of it.
my cousins hunt small game with two over under .410s i peronally like the firepower of a 20 or 12 gaure but the .410 is fin to shoot and very versatile. worth keeping.
I don't like it that game loads are higher for it than my 12! :) My daughter has one that I'm waiting for her to grow into. I used them for rabbits and squirrels when I was a kid. Oh yeah Water Moccasins to its a great snake gun!
Those who've never owned one, will undoubtedly not recommend it, but the fact is, if u learn to shoot a .410 well, you well be a holy terror on trap, rabbits, quail, squirrels, u name it, when you grow into .20's and .12's. Wouldn't recommend it for deer, unless it's your only option, and you've got a spot offering a CLOSE shot. It is too bad the ammo's high
Its a great way to train at the range, especially for competition trap shooting. If you can hit consistently with a .410, you'll be deadly when it comes time to pull out the 12 gauge.
A .410 shotgun is a lot of fun to hunt with and shoot for target practice. On the plus side, it has a minimum amount of recoil; however, on the down side, the ammo is more difficult to find and very, very expensive in comparison to the standard 20 and 12 guage loads.
