i think it's an excellent gun for pheasant, squirrel and rabbit. in my opinion a 12 gauge is overkill for these three, 20 ga does the trick just right.

Well it worked just fine on the snapping turtle that was eating our ducks a while back. My neibors daughter is an adult, but only about 5ft 1". She uses 20 gauges all of the time and has killed several deer with the same single-shot slug-gun. I would say they can kill anything from a snapper to whitetails to people who break in your house at midnight.

20 Ga is a fine gun for most upland shooting, but I have seen plenty of turkeys taken with them too.Not to mention deer with slugs, and its a hell of a skeet gun.

The 20 gauge shotgun will handle just about any job that you ask of it. It's not to small for deer with the rifled slug, it will handle all sizes of lead shot well and I personally know of a hound man that uses his with handloaded #2 shot for Fox with great results, it's a tremendous upland bird gun and it's not to small for home protection. Great all around choice.

I would not hesitate to use a .20 on any upland birds and most waterfowl short of turkey and the biggest of the Canada geese........ For pheasants, my choice was always #6 shot........ I do not recommend the low-base 7 1/2 or 8's intended for dove and quail for the bigger and tougher ringnecks....... Enjoy your .20 gauge shotgun... It's a good choice if you ask me....

I had a 20 guage 870 youth model when I was a kid- it worked on just about everything I pointed it at. I shot a double on chuckars at about 50 yards one time- that stands out because I am sure it was luck on behalf of the shooter, but in the right hands, I believe the gun would have done it again and again.

Like NYhunter said, anything the 12ga can tackle, so can the 20ga. In my profile, the pic of my fathers 14 point buck he shot last year was shot with a 20ga.

It can kill everything, and hurt your shoulder and wallet less while doing it.

The most underestimated of the shotguns. the 20 gauge is everything the previous answers said. Great for birds, small game, and deer. like jbird said, it's also less painful on your shoulder and wallet.

A 20 gauge is good for many to most small animals. But I would say it shines in its deer hunting. It is my opinion and a lot of research and ballistics show that it is the best multi shot gun for deer in states like Iowa. A muzzleloader is better but a 12 gauge is to heavy and cant compete ballistically with a 20 gauge.

A 20gauge will kill just about anything you want it too. Don't lose respect for a gun because of it's bore/gauge. Even a .22 or .17 can change lives in a heartbeat because people saw them as "small/weak" calibers. A 20gauge can lay down some hurtin'.

Any upland game bird. it can even kill a clay peigon. And to add to Jim in Mo's: question it can even kill a human.

It can kill most anything a 12 gauge can, given you're a good shot for birds.

I love my 20 ga. I have an 870 Wingmaster that I use for squirrels and rabbits. Sweet little gun, light, balanced - I like it a lot and would not hesitate to use it on ducks but I have another 870 Wingmaster and a Beretta both in 12 ga. and I usually shoot one of those two.
