I have shot 6 arrows at deer since switching to the Rage 2 blade mechanical. Collected 5 deer including 2 ten point whitetails. Most fell within sight. Beware, there are mechanicals that do not perform as well. I switched when a deer was lost after a complete pass thru with a Wasp Jackhammer snd there was little blood. The Rage 2 blade cts a huge hole going in and out. Stevie Wonder could follow the blood trail. It also flies like a field point. If you go to my profile you can see the best of the two bucks.
When I first started bow hunting I wasn't a fan of mechanical broadheads but for the past four years I have been using the Rage 3-Blade expandables and am thoroughly impressed with their performance. I don't trust the 'over the top' expandables however.
Del that suprises me taht u didnt find you deer with the wasp jackhammer cause that is wut i use and have shot 2 deer and both fell within 50 yards with a monster blood trail
Personally, I think the concept of fixed blades makes more since than mechanical, but after watching-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUBvkpqYuBc- and all the comments you guys made about rage it sounds like that's the way to go.
I've been bowhunting for 30 years and have shot most broadheads on the market. I spent the entire season field testing the rage 3-blade for myself. I harvested 3 deer and one turkey with the rage 3 blade this year. I was very unhappy with the performance for several reasons. Stick with fixed blades. They are just as accurate, they pass straight thru the deers body leaving a large blood trial and will not open prematurely.
Thanks for pointing that out T I've noticed that on some other guys post too. I prefer fixed blades I missed the first deer I ever shot at with a bow because of a mechanical broadhead and that was the last time I used them.
I use fixed blade Muzzy MX-4's. Chris Carpenter you are correct when you say such a high % of animals are lost because of mechanicals.
They might be a tad more accurate but are way more prone to deflection on quartering shots, blades break easier and they open prematurely. I could go on.
Dont fall into the trap of mechanical broadheads. If you have any respect for the game use fixed blades!
I shot 2 deer about 15 min apart that day with the jackhammer. The first went 23 yards and fell the second was the one we lost. My arrow passed thru the chest right behind the shoulder but a little high. The arrow was covered with blood but not a drop on the ground to follow. Searched for that deer for hours. The Jackhammer is an over the top head and makes a pretty small entrance wound. If you go to the Rage website you can see what I mean when I say the Rage 2 blade cuts a huge hole. There really is no reason to use the 3 blade. It is larger in diameter and (I've been told) does not penetrate as well. Keep in mind no broadhead can make up for a bad hit.
A photo is worth a thousand words. With that in mind click on my name and go to my profile. There are pics of 2 deer hit with Rage 2 blade broadheads. The doe was hit thru the liver and paunce yet still went only 56 yds. The bow was a 62 lb Mathews Switchback XT with Carbon Force Maxima Hunter arrow and Blazer vanes.
I have used both. Fixed blades for several years and usually Muzzy's, but I have tried mechanicals and have not lost an animal yet, knock on wood. I think they are improving the technology on them especially not using "O" rings which bust to easy I think.
Hey T, sorry about all those multiple posts, the computer I use got a virus so I would hit send and then the Laggneness would cause the page to resend like 7 or 8 times, i don't really want to do that.
I prefer fixed bade, but the Rage 2-blade seems to work great. It depend on what you are hunting. The leathality of ashot depends on pllacement and penitration, not a wide cut.

There's no doubt about it fixed all the way. 80% of lost animals come from mechanical broadheads.
i use mechanicals because they cutter a bigger hole with my crossbow and so they go down faster.

personaly i like fixed blades better because if you miss and it goes in a tree you can pull it out unlike with a mechanical its harder to pull out.
I would go with a fixed blade all the way. Mechanical blades are good, but they brake very easily. I would go with a stinger fixed blade.

I use to use fixed blades until the creation of Rage and now deer don’t run as far and the entrance and exit holes are absolutely humongous.
I use fixed blades. I can't find it in me to trust mechanicals. Give me the tried and true every time.
I use fixed. There more dangerous but I think that it is worth it.
fixed is more debendable. and i have heard of mechnical ones malfunctioing

Definatetly a fixed blade it is less likely to give you mechanical problems. That is the last thing you need to worry about out in the feild.

I agree...your broadhead makes a difference but nothing helps if the arrow isn't sent to the proper place.
I go with the fixed. I just worry about the mechanicals opening every time. Am I crazy for worrying?
Mechanical.
Fixed is better.
