Alaska Combat Anglers Get Hooked

From the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner:

Salmon aren't alone in being snagged during this busy summer fishing season in Alaska. Anglers get the hook, too.

Monica Musgrove, a nurse at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna, said emergency room staff have removed 62 hooks from patients since May - including a few through the eyelids and one from the tip of the nose.

And it's likely that many more went to other hospitals or did their own first-aid work.

the red salmon of alaska has had a major breakdown.. where millions of them should have rushed for higher ground in search for some wet stuff, merely a few hundred thousands have ventured forth..
No wonder anglers out there cant hook nothing but themselves in such conditions.. what the heck is happening to the natural world???

I have pulled many hooks out of myself and others. It is not that complicated but can be quite painfull. it is amazing how tough human skin is when you try to push a hook point through it.

Close proximity to other anglers, who are as enthusiastic as you are, can lead to consequential hook-ups that require a doctors attentive assertion,to hook you up with stitches.

Hook 'em up Doc!

Hooked in the eyelid--ouch! I've taken a few hooks but I've always been lucky enough to get caught in places not so delicate.

Not exactly the kind of catch or hook up a fisherman wants to have. Ruins a good day of fishing too, having to go to the hospital to be de-hooked.
