Discussion Topic: Your Fingers Or Your Dog?
By Dave Hurteau
How much do your love dog? Would you trade two fingers for Fido? Maybe it depends on which fingers. Maybe it depends on the dog. Over the weekend, 65-year-old Floridian David Grounds traded his right index and ring fingers for his wheaten terrier, Mandy, when he stuffed is hand into a 7-foot alligator’s mouth to save the pooch.
From the Sun Sentinel:
Grounds, a civil engineer, said he had no regrets about the rescue, calling his wounds "no big deal," other than putting the cramp in his typing at work.
"I'd do it again," he said.
Would you? Even once?

I'd do it for my dogs. I'd lose an arm for them.
I'd do it for my kids and my wife without hesitation, but for a dog, no.

Don't have a dog myself. Hope he didn't lose his trigger finger.
People, yes.
Dogs, no.
I'd do it for my dog, once they live with us there family.
For a terrier, no; for a more worthy dog, yes.
Depends on the dog. I've had dogs that I wouldn't hesitate to lose fingers for, and dogs I would gladly have fed to the gator!
I don't know if I'd straight up trade fingers for my dog, but you can bet your buttons that I'd be getting after that gator like this guy.
I love my pets, I know my dogs would try and do battle with a gator to save me so I would have to do the same, but you never really know how you will react until you are put in that situation.
I would do what it takes to save my dog.
No, I wouldn't do it for a dog, unless I shot the alligator first and made sure it was dead as a doornail.
I would have to say that I would save my dog in that way if I did not have a firearm on me. My dog would probably try and do the same for me so I would deffinitely do that to save him.

If there is a gator that i need to save balzack from then i guess my next trip would be to the pound for a new one. this dog has gone head to head with boar. he just went to the vet he is 158 pounds and his back comes up to about my hip and he is only 19 months old. he is going to be a beast.
I'm with Shane on this. Not a straight up trade, but I'm not going to stand by & watch. If I'm carrying I'm shooting. If not, I'm gettin' wet.
Not for s dog! You can ALWAYS get another! Fingers DON'T grow back. He should have shot it.
I would stick my hand so far down that gators throat i could tell you what he had for dinner a month ago. once a dog comes home it is a part of the family and is loved even tho the youngest one just pissed on the carpet.
i dont even like my dog that much but i would try to save him i would fight my hardest i always have a few knives on me and i can garenttee you i would be more determined then that gator idk if i would save someone elses dog if it meant risking my health i would do what a can though but for a person id do whatever necessary if the gator takes them under water ill be under water with them continuing the fight not because i want to play hero i hate when the attention is on me for some reason i would jsut never be able to live with myself if i let someone die when i could have stopped it
